First Steps in Italian

This is a light and effective course in the Italian language. From the beginning students learn how to introduce themselves and others with the normal greetings, talk about where they come from and learn about the different countries and nationalities. They will be given the necessary vocabulary in order to say what they do for a living and which languages they and others speak. They will learn how to order in restaurants and bars, count from 0-100, how to use the telephone efficiently enough to book rooms in hotels and make reservations for trains, planes and buses using the 24 hour clock and much more. They will also study how to go shopping and use the Euro monetary system. However, most importantly they will learn to have the know-how and confidence to speak the language from the outset.

The course book I recommend is the BBC First Steps in Italian which comes with a CD. This book is available from Amazon (cheaper than W.H. Smith)
